Age related Salmonella sera-prevalence in 4-7 month old breeding animals, gilts and sows from Danish breeding and multiplying herds

The purpose of the present investigation was to study the salmonella seroprevalence in young breeding animals, pregnant gilts/first litter sows and sows of parity two or higher. Twenty Danish breeding and multiplying herds were visited during the summer of 1998. In each herd 20 serum samples was obtained from each of the three age groups and tested in the Danish mix-ELISA (cut-off = 10 OD%) for antibodies to Salmonella.
